Pre-existing astigmatism can be corrected at the time of cataract surgery to improve your vision without glasses. Astigmatism causes a distorted view of objects and is related to the lens or cornea having a “warped” shape. Corneal astigmatism is corrected with incisions placed in the cornea with a special Toric IOL (intraocular lens). The procedure is chosen based on the amount of astigmatism and may require both types of procedures or even LASIK/PRK if there are large amounts of astigmatism.
